What started as a small mission is now a worldwide phenomenon of creating a sustainable Earth. With the need to reduce waste and the plead for raising awareness of our environmental impact, Mar is dedicated to diminishing plastic use, helping the ecosystem and helping create a cleaner future.
The word mar is the Spanish word for the sea, which we chose for our name as a way to represent the movement of reducing plastic waste that ends up in our precious oceans and seas. At Mar, we not only care for the ocean, but as well as nature and the wellbeing of wildlife.
problem
Reusable straws and other reusable items have only become popular in the past few years, so, there is only a few companies who sell these items at a reasonable price. Many of these companies use packaging that is far too similar and doesn’t really make them stand out. Creating a brand from scratch isn’t easy. One has to think what will the name be? How do you represent the product through the brand? This were some of the questions I had to think about while researching and creating a brand for reusable straws.
solution
Mar means “the sea” in Spanish. It represents why the movement of reusable items began, to reduce plastic waste in our oceans and beaches, but also to take care of our environment and the living organisms within it. I came up with packaging that has textures and patterns that represent the oceans, nature and wildlife in an abstract way. The packaging has fun colors that help the brand stand out and still resonate with nature and the environment. The logo has a clean typeface and small waves that run through the “A”.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
